SPYRODON is not only a band, SPYRODON is a collaborative entity between husband-and-wife visual artist team, Alex Theodoropulos and Tara Foley. SPYRODON gets its name from Alex’s father who is from The Peloponnese in Greece. The visual elements for SPYRODON go hand in hand with the music, merging sound with visual art. SPYRODON makes all of their own music videos and seeks to make animated music videos for other bands.

Alex was immersed in the early garage/psych rock scene in San Francisco at the start of the 2000s, which inspired much of the visuals and the sounds of SPYRODON. Alex has produced animations and music videos for bands coming from that genre, including Thee Oh Sees, Sean Lennon, and Isaiah Mitchell of Earthless (currently guitarist with the Black Crowes).

Alex merges high-end software tools alongside traditional hand-drawn animation methods to create his animations, resulting in his own unique style that is  often dreamlike and surreal. You can find more of Alex’s work on his website: alextheodoropulos.com

Tara is originally from the lower east side of New York City. She grew up going to shows at CBGB’s and other places in the area. She loved punk and hardcore, as well as early 90’s hip hop. She has an MFA from CalArts (2013), focusing on Fine Art, while taking a host of experimental animation courses. While at CalArts, Tara was fortunate to study with experimental animation faculty, Maureen Selwood and the late Susan Pitt, alongside many other esteemed fine arts faculty, namely Charles Gaines. Tara has joined forces with Alex’s already established animation practice as a fellow world-builder to create animations.

Tara is a multidisciplinary artist, whose artworks currently focus on the idea of spirituality and ethics regarding the future of Artificial Intelligence. For more of Tara’s art practice, check out her website: feralprojects.com
